Vaccination
Croeso Veterinary
Cats and dogs are vaccinated against a number of serious and potentially fatal diseases and annual booster vaccinations are required in order to maintain immunity.

Annual booster reminders are sent out from the practice by post. Kennels and catteries will require sight of your current vaccination certificate before boarding your pet:

  • Dogs
Vaccination is usually commenced between 8-12 weeks of age against: Distemper (Hard Pad), Leptospirosis, Viral Hepatitis, Parvovirus and Kennel Cough
  • Cats
Vaccinations are given similarly against Feline Enteritis, Feline Infienza, Feline Leukemia (FELV), and Chlamydia
  • Rabbits
Are vaccinated against Viral Haemorrhagic Disease and Myxomatosis

In order to be given either an initial or a booster vaccination, your pet must be in good health and so a physical examination will be given by the veterinary surgeon. This is a good time to discuss any problems you might have observed, as well as dealing with such routine matters as fleas and worms.

Vaccinations for your puppy or kitten

Your first visit to the Veterinary Hospital with your puppy or kitten is usually to start on a course of vaccinations; although the accompanying health examination is also very important.

Puppies and adult dogs are routinely protected against the following diseases:

  • Distemper; that causes severe respiratory infections and sometimes convulsions
  • Infectious Hepatitis; that affects the liver
  • Parvo Virus; that causes severe gastro-enteritis
  • Parainfluenza : a cause of infectious coughs
  • Leptospirosis: that can affect the liver or the kidneys and can be transmitted to humans

The first injections for puppies are commonly given at around 8wks of age and the second at 12 weeks. The puppy can then mix with other dogs and be taken out for walks one week after the second injection. Adult dogs need a booster vaccination and health examination every year to maintain protection. A booster reminder will be sent to your dog annually.

  • Kittens and adult cats are routinely protected against the following diseases:
  • Feline Enteritis (panleucopaenia): that causes severe gastro-enteritis
  • Feline Calici & Herpes Virus: that are major causes of cat flu
  • Feline Clamydial Infection: that causes from mild to severe sore eyes and cat flu
  • Feline Leukaemia Virus: that can affect the immune system or cause cancer

The first injection is usually given at around 9 weeks of age and the second at 12weeks.The vaccine will take at least another week to be effective. Adult cats need a booster vaccination and health examination every year to maintain protection. A booster reminder will be sent to your cat annually.

Out of Hours Service
We continue to provide our own 24 hour service for cases of accident or emergency. This means you will be seen by a member of this practice who is familiar with your pets medical history and who will be able to monitor progress thereafter. At such time please telephone your usual branch or the Hospital itself on 02920 619899

Prescription Medications
All of the medications your veterinary surgeon can provide, including those for the routine treatment of such problems as fleas and worms are Prescription Only Medications and, as such, are available only to registered clients. All are powerful preparations and this rule is implemented only with safety in mind. Repeat prescriptions are available for animals on long-term medications, and we request 24 hours notice for these. In such cases, the veterinary surgeon will require to examine your pet after an interval of 3-6 months in order to ascertain that there are no underlying problems developing.

Health Checks and AdviceHealth Checks and Advice
We are able to offer routine Well Pet Clinics by our Head Nurse Sian Hopkins Dip. AVN Surg., Caroline Wheeler VN and Carrie Davies VN. Clinics are also run for dental, weight and nutritional problems: They can advise you on the best ways to maintain your pets health as well as suggest when a routine blood test or minor dental work might prevent problems developing later on. Please contact the Hospital for advice or an appointment.

Fees
In order to minimise administration time and costs, we request that payment is made at the time of consultation or on collection of your pet after surgery/ hospitalisation. Payment is accepted in cash, cheque with a valid bankers card and credit card. We are pleased to provide a detailed fee guide on request before undertaking treatment.

Insurance
For a very reasonable cost, insurance covers veterinary fees for unexpected illnesses or a prolonged course of treatment. Routine elective procedures such as vaccinations and neutering are not included, but otherwise your veterinary fees will not be more than the excess for each illness. Please contact us for advice on the must suitable insurer.
